Birmingham Bears are at the top in the North Group with 4 consecutive wins. A strong and in-form batting order has been at the core of this winning run. Glenn Maxwell features at number 3 in the Birmingham batting lineup.
He was in sublime form during the recently concluded IPL and will be an asset for the Bears this year in the T20 Blast. Derbyshire Falcons will be facing Leicestershire in an away game before they face the Bears within just 24 hours.
Falcons have lost 3 in 3 matches including their last home game. In spite of scoring 179 and 178 in their first two outings, Derbyshire Falcons failed to defend the score.
Skipper Leus du Plooy has a big task at hand to turn things around in front of the home crowd. Birmingham have a deep lineup with some in-form middle order players and if Falcons don’t strike at the right intervals, they would lose another game at home.
The morale of the Falcons must be pretty low after consecutive losses. Leus du Plooy must have expected a turnaround when they faced Northants at their home venue.
The batting has been on a decline since their opening game. The middle order delivered good performances in the season opener while Reece and Madsen scored a fifty each in the second game.
In their home game, Falcons were batting first once again and this time, there was a batting collapse which got Derbyshire reeling at 49-4 in the 8th Over. While Madsen scored another fifty, albeit a slow paced one, Falcons finished with a below par score.
Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, and skipper Luis du Plooy are the key batters in Derbyshire lineup to watch out for. The lower middle order doesn’t seem to be quite reliable and moreover, we don’t see anyone stepping up and finishing the game on high in the lower order.
Zak Chappell and George Scrimshaw will lead the bowling attack for the home team. The young pacer from Pakistan, Zaman Khan is a promising bowler and one to watch out for.
Mark Watt, the left-arm orthodox bowler from Scotland, who’s played over 50 international games, has been expensive this season. Falcons have managed to strike early but just like the batters, their bowlers have also struggled to finish things off.
Luis Reece, Haider Ali, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy (c), Anuj Dal, Zak Chappell, Brooke Guest (wk), Mattie McKiernan, Mark Watt, George Scrimshaw, Zaman Khan

Birmingham Bears will be looking for their 5th straight win as they face a struggling Derbyshire at the County Ground in Derby. Alex Davies is leading an in-form and solid-looking squad at the Birmingham camp.
Robert Yates replaced Paul Stirling after the latter opened the innings in the first two matches. Stirling failed to make most of this opportunity while Yates has done pretty well scoring 71 and 30 in his two innings.
Alex Davies also looks in great touch with some brilliant knocks in his recent outings and will be confident of delivering another good start with Yates. This batting lineup goes deep with wicket-keeper bat Chris Benjamin coming in at number 6.
However, most of the strength of this Bears’ lineup lies in the top. Maxwell at 3 and Sam Hain at 4 are among the biggest impact players in the middle order. Davies also enjoyed a great variety in the bowling attack that allows him to rotate the bowlers well and make adjustments to the bowling attack as and when required.
Craig Miles, Ed Barnard, and Henry Brooks lead the pace attack. Danny Briggs, Mousley, and Maxwell will be the key bowlers in the spin department to watch out for.

The pitch has something for everyone. Batters can play their strokes freely but will have a tough challenge against the moving new ball in the early overs. It will be partly cloudy in Derby with a high of 19 degrees Celsius on the match day.
This will be the second match of the season to be played at the County Ground in Derby. The hosts have already lost one match here this season. They won 4 of their 6 games at this venue last year, with one of their losses coming against Birmingham Bears. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 163 runs. For a match-winning total, we reckon, the team batting first should aim for something over 175-180.
Last season, teams bowling first won 4 of the 6 matches at this venue and of the total 42 T20s played at this venue, 22 went in favour of the team bowling first. The visitors are in great form with the bat and will prefer chasing a total while the hosts will back themselves to repeat their last season’s success on the home turf.
Derbyshire are yet to play their Leicestershire game and though that will give a bit of more insight into what to expect from the Falcons when they face the Bears, we will be going by their performances in the first three matches. So far, it is advantage Birmingham, clearly. There is potential in the Derbyshire batting lineup and they can post a 170+ score but the bowling isn’t in great touch and may find it challenging to defend it against a mighty Bears’ lineup. The visiting Birmingham Bears have a clear edge in this contest and will start as favourites in our match prediction.
