After a two-year break due to the pandemic, we have Irani Cup, and 2019-20 Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra shall be up against the Rest of India. It is the first Irani Cup game for Saurashtra, and they would love to add this coveted trophy to their cabinet. The Rest of India hasn't won the trophy since 2016-17, and they would like to end this wait.  

Saurashtra has a strong batting line-up with Cheteshwar Pujara in the team, which adds to the side's strength. They play at home, and the team knows the conditions well. The Rest of India's squad has a relatively weaker batting line-up, and it will be interesting to see if they can put up a big challenge for Saurashtra.

Jaydev Unadkat would be hoping for a maiden Irani Cup title in this game. The 2019-20 Ranji Champions have some of the best players in the domestic circuit. These players have done well in the last few years and know each other's game well. Unadkat is known to lead from the front, and he would like to see support from his players as they bid to add another jewel to their crown.  

The side would like a solid start in this game from Harvik Desai and Snell Patel as both these players have shown good form in recent years. Cheteshwar Pujara at No. 3 is the best batsmen, and he will look to do well with Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada. The side would also expect runs from Prerak Mankad and Kamlesh Makvana down the order.  

On the bowling front, Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya must strike early as both can make good use of the new ball. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Kamlesh Makvana will enjoy the conditions at their home ground and look to trouble the Rest of India's batters. Prerak Mankad and Vasavada add to the side's bowling options.

Hanuma Vihari would be leading this side full of some of the best domestic players in India. The Rest of India hasn't won the trophy since the 2016-17 season, and Vihari would like to change that. It would be a tough challenge against the strong Saurashtra squad that has played together for a while. It will be interesting to see how Vihari leads the team in this big contest.  

Mayank Agarwal is an experienced player, and he must offer a solid start for the side, opening the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sarfaraz Khan is a strong hand at No. 3 and will look to add runs with Priyank Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Srikar Bharat and Vihari must score runs down the order as the Saurashtra bowling attack is strong and would test them in this game.  

Umran Malik has an excellent opportunity to prove his skills, and the side would expect good spells as he shares the new ball with the experienced Jayant Yadav. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore has added to his reputation in recent seasons, and he will have to bowl good spells with Arzan Nagwaswalla. Vihari must do well in the supporting act and bring his experience to play.

It would be warm and dry conditions at Rajkot starting October 1. The batting conditions would be good on the flat surface, and we hope to see a high-scoring game. Bowlers shall have little on this track for the first three days, and it is only on days 4 and 5 that batsmen are likely to face trouble.

Venue Details

Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot has a flat surface, and runs have been scored in the past. Spinners do well at this venue as the dry surface allows them to turn the ball sharply. It is one of the toughest wickets for the fast bowlers with little assistance from the track.

Toss: To Bat

The first two days are the best to bat on this wicket. The ball comes to the bat nicely. Spinners get into action from Day 3 onward. The side winning the toss in this game shall have little hesitation in opting to bat first.
