Victoria would be aiming for its second consecutive win of the season as they play Western Australia in the second game of the Marsh One-Day Cup 2022-23. Victoria started with a victory defeating New South Wales in the first game. Western Australia had won the title last season and would look to make a perfect start.   

Western Australia has won the last four games against Victoria and had last lost against them in 2018. This record would make the side confident as they also have some of the best batsmen in the domestic circuit. Victoria plays at home, and the side would like to make the best of the conditions.

Peter Handscomb shall be relieved to have started the season with a win. They defeated New South Wales in the last game by three runs under the DLS method. It would be a more formidable challenge against the defending champions - Western Australia. Handscomb shall like his team to make the best of the momentum and win this game.  

Will Pucovski and Mackenzie Harvey did well opening the batting, and the pair shall like to repeat the same in this game. The middle order is formidable, with Marcus Harris, Peter Handscomb, and Matthew Short, but these players haven’t had the best form. Jonathan Merlo, Jake Fraser McGurk, and Will Sutherland add strength to the lower middle order.  

Their bowling performance was good in the last game, and the side would expect tight spells from Scott Bolland and Mitchell Perry in this game. Sutherland and Todd Murphy come here after bowling good spells and need to continue with the same form. Short and Jonathan Merlo shall aim for good spells in the supporting role.

The defending champions have a strong team and would look to make a statement in this game. D’Arcy Short would like his side to start from where they left off last season. Victoria has already won its first game, and Short would like to see his player perform at their best in this game.  

Josh Philippe and Sam Whiteman had done well at the top last season, and they would like to set up a solid opening wicket stand. D’Arcy Short will have an important role at No. 3 without Josh Inglis and Cameron Green. He must add runs with Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft. Hilton Cartwright and Aaron Hardie have their range of strokes and look to do well.  

Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson are experienced bowlers, and the side would expect early wickets from them. Ashton Turner will need to bowl tight lines in the middle overs of the game. They would also look for a good show from Short and Aaron Hardie, who add good bowling options to the side.

The pitch at Junction Oval, Melbourne, is suitable for fast bowlers at the start of the game. Spinners struggle at this venue as the short size of the boundaries makes it challenging for them. Batsmen who get their eyes set have done well as the ball hits the bat hard.

The conditions would be difficult for batting, as we had seen in the previous game. Fast bowlers would get the ball to move in the early overs of the game. Hence the side that wins the toss here would have no hesitation in inviting the opposition to bat first.
