Australians came into West Indies with a depleted squad as far as their batting is concerned but most of their fans would have liked to see a spirited effort from them which wasn’t the case. The side failed to compete in the T20s losing it 1-4. They would hope to see a change in fortunes as they start the 3-match ODI series against hosts West Indies at Bridgetown, Barbados.

West Indies are on a high at the moment and have their batsmen and bowlers in good form. Though few new faces have joined the squad for the ODIs the side would look to carry on from where they had left. They do not have the best of records against Aussies in this format of the game and shall look to make amends here.

West Indies Preview

Kieron Pollard who missed out the T20 series due to an injury is likely to resume his role as captain for the side. The West Indies skipper would be happy with the way his side dominated the Australians during the T20s and shall aim to carry on with the same momentum. They have won only once against Australia in the last 10 games, but Pollard would count his chances against a depleted Australian side.

The side would like to see a good start in the game from Evin Lewis and Shai Hope. Lewis has been in good form in the recent games. They have a formidable middle order with Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase and Nicholas Pooran in the side. Down the order the side would like to see runs from Jason Holder, Pollard and Fabian Allen as they are known for being powerful hitters of the ball.

Their bowling attack had troubled the Australians in the T20s, and they would look to continue the same way. Sheldon Cottrell and Alzarri Joseph would be tasked with grabbing early wickets with the new ball. Jason Holder brings in vast experience to the attack and shall look to keep the scoring rate under check in the middle overs. The side would also look for a good show from Fabian Allen and Pollard.

West Indies Predicted Playing XI:

Kieron Pollard (c), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Akeal Hosein, Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph

West Indies Actual Playing XI:

Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo, Akeal Hosein, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Alzarri Joseph, Hayden Walsh, Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Jason Mohammed, Evin Lewis

Australia Preview

The news just got worse for the demoralized Australian team. After the 1-4 loss in the T20 series, the side would be without the services of regular skipper Aaron Finch who suffered a knee injury. Matthew Wade is likely to step into the leadership role and hope to turn the fortunes of his side. Wade would like his side to draw inspiration from their good record against West Indies.

Matthew Wade is likely to open the batting with Josh Phillippe and the duo would need to get the side off to a good start. Mitchell Marsh is the most experienced batsmen in the middle order, and he will have to build partnerships with Alex Carey and Moises Henriques. The side bats deep and they would hope to see big hits from the likes of Daniel Christian and as Ashton Turner in this game.

Their bowling attack would have a very important role to play in this game especially Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood with the new ball. They have to cause the early damages for the side to be in a comfortable position. Jason Behrendorff and Adam Zampa would have to keep the hosts quite during the middle overs. Christian and Turner have to fill into the role of the fifth bowler in this game.

Australia Predicted Playing XI:

Matthew Wade (c & wk), Mitchell Marsh, Josh Phillippe, Alex Carey, Moises Henriques, Ashton Turner, Daniel Christian, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Hazlewood

Weather Conditions

The skies over Barbados would be overcast on July 21 and we might see light showers during the game. The pitch can be tricky to bat on as the ball tends to stop on the batsmen. Batsmen have to get their eyes set in on this surface. The side batting first would be targeting a score in excess of 300 runs to win this game.

Venue Details

Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados is known for being a tough batting surface. The ball doesn’t come onto the bat nicely and batsmen have to be watchful. There isn’t much on the surface for the fast bowlers and they have to use their variations well here. Spinners have enjoyed good success at this venue in the past.

Toss: To Bat

The wicket here is tricky to bat on and it gets slower as the game progresses. Chasing scores here has always been a challenge for the side. Hence, we hope to see the side winning the toss here having little hesitation in batting first.

Australians have had a terrible tour so far and injury to the skipper is likely to hit them hard. Their batting has looked weak in most of the games and the inexperience is showing at the moment. They will have to make amends in this department to start off with a win. West Indies come into this game from a position of strength, and they would look to continue with the same momentum and start favorites here.
