  • They were brilliant as they beat Brighton in midweek
  • Leicester are on the edge of a cliff, two points adrift of safety and with little hope of survival

Newcastle took a giant leap towards their ambition of playing in the Champions League next season, seeing off Brighton 4-1 in their midweek clash.

The Magpies deservedly sit in 3rd place right now and it’s hard to see them failing to clinch a top four spot from this point.

Eddie Howe’s men are often brilliant at home, and they’ll fancy their chances of picking up another three points here. They’ll want to give their exception home support the send-off it deserves.

As for Leicester, hope is quickly running out for them to escape the clutches of relegation this season. With Southampton already gone, Leicester may well join them if results go against them here.

If they lose here and Leeds and Everton win their respective fixtures, the Foxes will be relegated to the Championship. These are difficult times for supporters of Leicester City.

Newcastle United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Won their final home game in seven of the last nine seasons

One more win would seal a top four finish and Champions League football

Reasons to be fearful:

Their opponents are fighting for their lives

Dropped points against relegation candidates Leeds last week

Newcastle are just inches away from achieving what many would have thought impossible just 18 months or so ago.

When Eddie Howe took over and the Saudi Arabia’s took ownership of the club, they weren’t sure whether Newcastle would stay in the Premier League.

Fast-forward to now and it looks almost certain that they’ll be playing Champions League football next season. It’s been a thrilling turnaround and one that their fans have loved every minute of.

This should be the perfect opportunity to put on a show for their home supporters, although Leicester are absolutely desperate for points.

It should make for a good contest.

Star Man – Callum Wilson

Wilson has never been in better form than he is now. He has eight goals in his last six appearances, taking his total to 18 for the season.

Leicester City Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

A win could take them out of the bottom three

Have continued to score goals despite poor results

Reasons to be fearful

Lost three of their last four against Newcastle

Conceded 41 away goals this season – their highest in 13 seasons

If results elsewhere go against Leicester, then the Foxes may have to turn up at St. James’ Park and beat Newcastle to stay in the Premier League.

It seems unthinkable for a club that won the league seven years ago and the FA Cup two seasons ago to be relegated, but that’s the situation they find themselves in.

On the other hand, should they win here and Leeds and Everton lose, the Foxes would launch themselves out of the bottom three.

They have to believe that they can cause a shock, despite looking completely down and out in their recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

Star Man – James Maddison

Unfortunately, Maddison will be one of the first to leave the club should Leicester go down this season. He has been one of their better performers this season, though, with 19 goal contributions.

Newcastle will have more of the ball

Should be good chances at both ends

Leicester could struggle to live with Magpies

Newcastle deserve to finish in the top four this season, and the chances are that they’ll secure that here.

In front of their own fans, you fancy them to put in another fine performance and knock Leicester over here.

Will this be the end of the Foxes? It’s likely to go down to the final game of the season, but Leicester are favourites to go down at this point.
