This will be a clash of teams who began their journey in a similar manner but chose contrasting paths to recover. The Thalaiva decided to fight it out and face the future while the Gujarat Fortune Giants could not do justice to their talent.

The Fortune Giants have lost 5 consecutive matches and more or less look like a spent force. But they gave a tough fight to Dabang Delhi and almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. But the future looks bleak for the Giants as they are 11th in the points table.

The Thalaiva still has an outside chance to make it to the playoff if they can recharge themselves to win the remaining matches. The Thalaiva has come a long way this season. They displayed grit and courage by coming back from the ashes. But the Thalaiva still has a long way to go but they seem too short of time. They lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers in their last game which was a shocker for them. Earlier in the week they forced a TIE against the Patna Pirates and then went on to beat the mighty Bengal Warriors and U Mumba. Hence the loss against the Pink Panthers will hurt them. 

The most impressive aspect of the Thalaiva is that they dare to win. Young raider Narender displayed agility and creativity to win multiple points while Captain Sagar dared to tackle the huge Maninder Singh single-handedly to secure a Super tackle. This has made the Thalaiva very dangerous though many teams do not take them seriously at face value.

Raider Narender has earned 173 raid points from 140 successful raids. This includes 9 Super 10’s. 

Left corner Sahil Gulia has been impressive with 38 successful tackles in 17 matches. Right cover M Abhishek has also assisted in multiple tackles apart from the 28 successful tackles executed by himself. 

Though the Tamil Thalaiva has inflicted just 18 all-outs in 17 matches they have also earned 54 DoD raid points. The Thalaiva plays within its limitations and works on empty raids to build pressure on their opponents, especially in the mid-game. They exploit this by earning DoD raid points and keeping their opponents guessing. 

They will be up against a maverick Gujarat side. They do not enjoy a great record against the Fortune Giants. The Thalaiva has been able to win just 2 out of their 7 encounters. They beat the Fortune Giants once in season 7 and their match earlier this season ended in a TIE. This match will be crucial for the Thalaiva rather than their opponents as the Tamil Thalaiva needs vital points to stay in the top 6 in the points table.

Gujarat Giants Preview

The season is more or less over for the Gujarat Fortune Giants as they languish at the 11th position in the points table. They will be disappointed with their performance but they can’t blame anybody but themselves.

The Gujarat Fortune Giants had a slippery defense throughout the season and were mostly dependent on earnings via raids. Their success rate in team tackles is just 30% which is the lowest among all teams. They have conceded 617 team points along with 24 all-outs in 16 matches. They have been able to win just 5 out of their 16 games which have kept them below the poverty line in the points table.

Raiders Chandran Ranjeet, Rakesh, and Mahendra Rajput have worked relentlessly but the defense could not complement their efforts. Prateek Dahiya was the rising star for the Fortune Giants which his dubki skills. But he was injured mid-season and could play too many games. 

Prateek Dahiya was at his best against Dabang Delhi in his last game. He plundered 20 points in that match, though the Giants ended on the losing side. It was such a comic site as the Fortune Giants could earn just 1 tackle point in the entire match. Apart from Prateek, raider Sonu earned 9 points apart from Chandran Ranjit and Mahendra Rajput who earned 9 raid points together. Such was the mess in the Gujarat defense that even South e Korean raider Dong Geon earned a couple of raid points.

The Fortune Giants have displayed contrasting tactics. In some games, they have reduced the pace and gambled on DoD raids while in other matches they have been over-aggressive. They beat the UP Yodha earlier in the week in a high-scoring match. Gujarat scored 51 team points and leaked 45 points. This has not allowed the team to stabilize and play as per their opponents.

They will be up against a competitive Tamil Thalaiva in their next match. Gujarat enjoys a better record over the Thalaiva but their current form is a big worry. The Fortune Giants have to play for pride as a spot in the playoff is out of their reach. They can just entertain their fans and spoil the party for the Thalaiva.
