Still, they displayed grit and played with optimism. They were involved in 4 Tied games this season which is the highest by any team. The Haryana Steelers were the underachievers of season 9. They were effervescent as well as lethal. But they could not maintain the intensity through the long season. In the last few games, they looked amateur as fatigue had caught up with them. They were hoping for an opportunity to squeeze into the playoff had Dabang Delhi lost their last match. Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall for the Steelers as they finished 8th in the points table.

Tamil Thalaivas Preview

The Tamil Thalaiva has been the real Macoy of season 9. They lost their superstar Pawan Sehrawat to a freak injury in the very first match of the season. Before they could recover from the shock, their coach quit midseason. They kept on fighting and losing hovering in the bottom half of the points table. As they gathered momentum, they started winning matches with sheer teamwork.

They had their Captain Sagar at the helm of affairs who is one of the best raiders in this season. Unfortunately, as the playoffs came to closure, Sagar was injured. Still, the Tamil Thalaiva managed to finish 5th in the points table and qualified for the eliminators. If any team deserves to win the title, it is the Tamil Thalaiva.

The most impressive of the players has been raider Narender. He had the best match of his life as he looted 24 points against Dabang Delhi earlier in the season. Left corner Himanshu too hunted down the raiders with ease as he earned 5 tackle points in that game. Tamil Thalaiva scored 9 tackle points against Dabang and got them all out thrice in the first half.

The Thalaiva has been impressive in the last few games, especially with their raiding. Stand-in Captain Ajinkya Pawar and Himanshu Narwal have also contributed to the Thalaiva’s success.

Apart from the raiding, the Thalaiva has excelled in defense too. Captain Sagar was the lone wolf in the initial games but he has some support from defenders Himanshu and Abhishek. Left corner Sahil Gulia has been impressive with 47 successful tackles in 21 games. Both Sagar and Abhisek have also executed 82 successful tackles together. Left cover Mohit has also improved this season and has contributed largely to the Thalaiva’s success.

In this way, the Thalaiva has scripted a comeback of sorts as they surprised many top teams. They will play the eliminator with the team placed 4th. That match will be in Mumbai. But before that, the Thalaiva is expected to put up an unforgettable show for its fans in Hyderabad.

Haryana Steelers Preview

Semi-finalists of season 8 find themselves stranded at the 8th spot in the points table after 21 games as they have been knocked out of the playoff. This is unknown territory for the Steelers as they play an aggressive brand of kabaddi. 

Life does strange things to you and Haryana Steelers are a prime example of this. Even after putting in the yards and working hard together as a team, they haven’t been able to log in the necessary victories. The Steelers could not maintain the consistency needed and suddenly lost games. Some of their defeats have been close encounters as they lost to Dabang Delhi by a margin of 2 points, to U mumba by just a point and to the Gujarat Fortune Giants by 4 points.

The Steelers missed the knock-out punch this season. They missed a lethal left corner. Aging captain Joginder Narwal was not at his best while the Haryana Steelers did not have any back for an efficient left corner. This reduced their probability of a successful tackles.Youngster Naveen Kundu could have been an option for the left corner position as all-rounder Nitin Rawal too wasn’t effective. 

Still their defense was consistent with Jaideep Dahiya performing exceedingly well. Jaideep has been one of the best defenders on the circuit. He conducted 49 successful tackles in 21 matches for the Steelers. Right cover Mohit Nandal too performed beyond expectations as he earned 40 successful tackles in the season.

The Steelers stole the show against the Telegu Titans in their last match but it was a bit too late for them as they had missed the playoff bus. They will enter the arena for the last time as they take on the Tamil Thalaiva. Raider Lovepreet Singh and other youngsters got some match time and all of the team members may just get some time to display their skills and entertain their fans.
