SRH vs RCB - IPL 2019 11th Match – Full Review and Match Highlights

It was a humiliating 118 runs defeat for RCB as they were outscored by highest scorer for SRH – Jonny Bairstow – with his maiden century for IPL and SRH.
David Warner also scored 100, reaching the landmark in the last over.
SRH openers – Bairstow and Warner – registered third consecutive 100 plus runs partnership.
SRH posted a humongous total of 231 runs with the loss of just 2 wickets. 185 runs partnership between Bairstow and Warner is the IPL record for the first wicket.

RCB batsmen crumbled under the pressure of chasing at 11.6 required run rate right from the first ball. Apart from all-rounder Grandhomme, no other RCB batsman crossed 20 runs.

SRH got a gift from Virat Kohli when they were asked to bat first. SRH openers continued their form and streak of 100 plus opening partnership in this match.

SRH openers showed their intent right from the first over, as they hit 3 boundaries off Moeen Ali. Bairstow hit two consecutive boundaries to Mohammed Siraj in his first over. The approach was clear, not to allow any bowlers to get settled. The openers maximized first mandatory powerplay with 59 runs. After a couple of watchful overs post powerplay, they changed gear and scored 18 runs off young debutant Prayas Barman, with 1 six and 2 fours.

SRH reached 105 without a wicket in 10 overs. In the next five overs, they continued to hit sixes and fours at will and posted another 59 runs. Bairstow's shimmering and quality innings came to end in the 17th over. SRH accumulated 67 in their last five overs to post an impossible target of 232 for RCB.

Mohammad Nabi struck first, taking Parthiv Patel’s wicket. In the 4th over, Nabi took two wickets to jolt RCBs faith in the grim run chase. After Kohli’s wicket in the 7th over, followed by the run-out of Ali, SRH did not leave anything for RCB, neither the required run rate nor the wickets in hand. Eventually, they were bowled out RCB for 113 in 19.5 overs and won with a huge margin of 118 runs.

Bairstow was the top scorer with his spectacular 56 balls 114. David Warner played till the end and reached to his 100 at the strike rate of 181.81. Nabi grabbed 4 crucial wickets giving away just 11 runs in his four overs, complemented well by Sandeep Sharma with his 3 wickets.

It proved to be a huge mistake to give away batting option to opponents after winning the toss. Kohli’s pitch reading went wrong, as it never really slowed down.

The decision of giving opening over to Moeen Ali too did not go in their favour, as he conceded 3 boundaries. No RCB bowlers could contain SRH openers. For the first wickets, they had to wait till the 17th over. But it was too late, as SRH had already posted 185 runs on the board. RCB bowlers remained ineffective till the end, allowing SRH to set an unassailable target of 232. This is what happens when the bowlers give away 10 plus runs in 11 out of 20 overs.

Run chases are not always tricky, but when a team is chasing 232, the pressure is uncontainable. In such situations, more often the batsmen fall quickly and exactly that is what happened with RCB. Even for the likes of de Villiers and Kohli, the target was too much to handle. The match was almost over in the seventh over of RCB's batting when Kohli and Ali got out in successive deliveries. Kohli fell to Sandeep Sharma. It was the sixth time he got out to Sharma in the IPLs. With hardly anything left for the RCBs thereafter, Grandhomme tried to keep the show on till late and RCB could go past 100 runs. Grandhomme was the only positive in the RCB’s scorecard.

Chahal took one wicket at the expense of 44 runs. No other bowlers got any success in terms of wickets or runs. With the bat, Grandhomme scored 37 runs in 32 deliveries with 3 fours and a couple of sixes. The second highest scorer was debutant young Prayas Barman who scored 19 in 24 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s will next play away match against Delhi Capitals at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi on 4th of April 2019. It is expected to be a good competition, as both sides have shown a very good batting display, both posted 200 plus runs in this IPL season. SRH will look forward to win this match to register their first away win.

With no success so far, RCB will be desperate to beat Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on 2 April 2019. All eyes will be on the dependable batsmen duo Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to turn the table with their magical performances.
