Mumbai Indians must win this game to stay alive in the race to playoffs. A win here would not guarantee a place in the top 4 since RCB also have the same points with one match to go.
Along with a win, MI also need a boost to their NRR to overtake RCB and strengthen their chances. The recent games have seen MI bowlers deliver early breakthroughs in the powerplay.
And this is a great sign going into this match. The opposition has some brilliant in-form batters such as Rossouw, Harry Brook, and Glenn Phillips. All of these are known for their destructive power.
SRH failed to finish on a high in their last match against RCB. But here, on a good batting surface against MI, they will back themselves to put on a great show at the death.
MI have great depth in their batting and will be opting to bowl first if they win the toss. They can capitalize on Hyderabad’s bowling struggles especially after their recent loss against RCB.
MI need to bounce back from their recent loss where they failed to get 11 off the final over with Cameron Green and Tim David on the crease. The two managed to score just 5 runs in that over from Mohsin Khan, a 24-year old uncapped bowler with just 12 IPL games.
The key middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera failed to get going and it hampered MI’s run-chase. While Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma’s form at the top is good news, MI need their finishers to deliver.
And they need to deliver big. Winning this game is not enough, MI needs to win by a good margin. This is the time when Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma are required to play their best.
An inexperienced bowling attack that went for runs for most part of the season has finally looked good. MI have managed to find wickets in the powerplay in recent outings.
However, when taking on SRH, the home team needs their bowlers to deliver at the death as well given the firepower in Hyderabad’s lower middle order. Akash Madhwal is a key bowler in the MI setup who can deliver some good overs at the death.
Piyush Chawla is the go-to man for breakthroughs and he can also restrict the flow of runs in the middle overs. Chris Jordan hasn’t been in his best form while Behrendorff is enjoying bowling with the new ball.
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Nehal Wadhera, Tim David, Hrithik Shokeen, Chris Jordan, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff, Akash Madhwal

Sunrisers Hyderabad were pretty much on top of the game against RCB at home in their last match. Klaasen’s hundred helped them post 186-run total batting first but it was nowhere near enough when Kohli and Faf got going in the second half of the match.
It was a good batting pitch in Hyderabad and it will be even better when they come to the Wankhede in Mumbai. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan need to be on their best day if SRH are to stand any chance of gaining the upper hand against MI.
Though it is preferable to chase a total at this venue and MI aren’t the best team to defend a total here, SRH cannot leave everything to their batters.
MI bowlers have shown some great character in their recent outings including on this ground against the table toppers GT. SRH are very much dependent on their overseas batters to take them to a good total.
As such, if Chawla gets the better of Markram and Klaasen in the middle overs, SRH will be in all sorts of trouble and would not be comfortable chasing even on a good batting track.
They need the bowlers to do their job well. They have been expensive and Markram doesn’t have any go-to bowler when he needs a wicket. At the moment all of their hopes rest on the overseas batters’ current form.
Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Harry Brook, Glenn Phillips, Abdul Samad, Kartik Tyagi, Mayank Dagar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Nitish Reddy

It is a belter of a pitch at the Wankhede where batters will enjoy playing their strokes. The local boys, Surya and Rohit have scored many big knocks on this pitch and will be ones to watch out for again. The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 33 degrees Celsius.
Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host MI’s last home game of the season. It is a day game and the weather forecast is cloudy, so no dew is expected. There can be some movement for the new-ball bowlers early on. Teams can have a better chance of defending a total in the day game at this venue than the night ones. A 190+ score would be a competitive total for team batting first.
It will be in the best interest for both teams to chase a target at this venue. SRH doesn’t have the right bowling attack to defend a total against the mighty MI. Whereas, MI can be vulnerable at the death against some quality batting like Klaasen, Brook, and Phillips.
While both teams are coming into this game on the back of a loss, MI will start with an advantage. They’ve played plenty of cricket on this ground and have their key players in top form. The ground dimensions aren’t big enough and we expect many sixes in this match. SRH will pose a tough challenge with the bat but their bowling struggles make things difficult for them against such a tough opponent. MI have a clear edge in this contest and will start as favourites in our match prediction.
